The School Board for St. Francis Area Schools has a vacancy and is accepting applications to appoint a board member until a special election occurs on Nov. 4, 2025.
The open seat is available due to the resignation of Board Member Andrea Anson, which was effective June 6, 2025. Minnesota State Statute 123B.09 BOARDS OF INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICTS (listed below), dictates the process a school board must take.
Interested candidates need to complete and return this application in-person to the District Office (4115 Ambassador Boulevard NW, St. Francis, MN 55070) or by email to Superintendent Karsten Anderson at karsten.anderson@isd15.org by 3 p.m. on Wednesday, June 18. Paper copies of the applications are available at the District Office. Questions about the application can be directed to Board Chair Nathan Burr at nathan.burr@isd15.org.
The School Board will review and appoint one individual at the Regular School Board Meeting on Monday, June 23. The appointed individual will be seated at the Monday, July 28 Regular School Board Meeting. This individual will serve on the School Board until the results of the Special Election are certified.
Minnesota State Statute 123B.09 BOARDS OF INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICTS
“Subd. 5b.Appointments to fill vacancies; special elections. (a) Any vacancy on the board, other than a vacancy described in subdivision 4, must be filled by board appointment at a regular or special meeting. The appointment shall be evidenced by a resolution entered in the minutes and shall be effective 30 days following adoption of the resolution, subject to paragraph (d). If the appointment becomes effective, it shall continue for the remainder of the unexpired term or until an election is held under this subdivision, as applicable. All elections to fill vacancies shall be for the unexpired term. A special election to fill the vacancy must be held no later than the first Tuesday after the first Monday in November following the vacancy. If the vacancy occurs less than 90 days prior to the first Tuesday after the first Monday in November in the year in which the vacancy occurs, the special election must be held no later than the first Tuesday after the first Monday in November of the following calendar year.”
