Results from the 2023-24 Minnesota Comprehensive Assessment (MCA) tests were released by the Minnesota Department of Education. The results showed not only an increase in proficiency from the previous year by St. Francis Area Schools students in math and reading, but a four-year high in both content areas.
In reading, the district’s proficiency rates grew 5.3% compared to the previous year. The reading percentage in 2023-24 scored higher than the state average by more than two percent. In math, the district recorded a 2.8% improvement in proficiency rates.
“We understand there is still significant work to be done, but we are pleased with the progress students and teachers made last school year,” said Superintendent Karsten Anderson. “The MCAs are just one touchpoint in determining academic success, but we continue to find ways to equip students to achieve individual and district goals.”
District leaders are analyzing why science scores decreased in 2023-24. The science test is administered to students in fifth, eighth and 11th grade. New science curriculum was recently purchased in preparation for updated standards to be assessed in the spring of 2025.
