Students in 4th, 5th and 6th grades can enter a statewide Mayor for a Day Essay Contest through the League of Minnesota Cities. Additionally, the City of Oak Grove is running a similar contest for its residents.
To enter in the League of Minnesota Cities contest, 4th, 5th, and 6th graders can answer the prompt, “What would you do if you were mayor for a day?” for a chance to win $100 and recognition in Minnesota Cities magazine. The submission deadline is December 13. Read more about the competition.
City of Oak Grove residents
Oak Grove residents in the 4th, 5th and 6th grade have been invited by Mayor Weston Rolf to also submit their essays to him for a chance to be the honorary Oak Grove Mayor for a Day.
The winner, which will be selected by Mayor Rolf, will:
Receive a $25 gift card.
Invited to a future council meeting and assist Mayor Rolf by calling the meeting to order and lead the Pledge of Allegiance.
Read their essay before the council
Give their idea of what they would do if they were the mayor.
The opportunity to ride in a fire truck to the council meeting.
Children must live within Oak Grove to participate.
To enter: Answer the prompt, “What would you do if you were mayor for a day?” and send the essay to westonrolf@gmail.com no later than December 13 to be considered.
